Nice to get that last time on Dragonballz on this episode. The quick recaps of the episode were a great joy back in high school when the episodes came out every day on Toonami. Still remember those days rushing home from school to make it time to watch the next episode. Then sometimes to be just disappointed to find out that it was another rerun, or who could forget the seemingly twenty long weeks it took Goku to turn to Super Saiyan in the Frieza saga. Yes, good times.

The episode starts off with Raditz chasing off in the clouds to find Goku aka Kakarot as we now know. Yet this quickly flips over to our two favorite perverts, Master Roshi and Krillin. Bulma walks in and they are right away up to their pervert antics. I guess Bulma and Yamcha were dating because she is mad that he went on a date with another girl. Soon enough Goku and Gohan arrive on the nimbus cloud.

When Goku arrives they had no idea that he had a son. I mean how close of friends are these? He only spent basically his whole life with them. Gohan is four an half years old and they don’t know anything about him at all and Gohan is afraid of Master Roshi’s sea turtle, but they make up and become friends pretty soon. I forgot that Gohan was named after Gokus (earth) grandfather. The four stall dragonball on his hat actually belonged to Gokus Gohan named grandfather so this is a nice tribute. Goku also mentions that he has the three star and the six star ball at home.

Goku senses Raditz’s presence coming to them now and as soonas he does Krillin can feel it too. Raditz arrives on Master Roshi’s island and Master Roshi says that he smells death in the air, uh… come on dude… morbid much? Goku is very surprised to learn that his name is Kakarot and he was sent here on a mission to destroy earth. Then Krillin gets owned, queue the count for dragon ball z abridged. Of course we find out that it was a head injury that caused Goku to forget all this and Master Roshi goes into a spiel to tell us about how Grandpa Gohan found him nursed him back to health.

Raditz spills the beans and you find out he is from the planet Vegeta and Raditz is his big brother. This is where I think Raditz gets a bad rap in the history of dragon ball z. Yeah he was the first villain and he got dismissed but he is Goku’s brother so his potential has to be crazy high. He just wasn’t giventhe chance to live up to it because he died so early on in the series. He for sure could have been in the Gohan, Trunks, Goten areas of power level. Alas, we may never know. Raditz is very surprised that Goku is missing his Saiyan tail and basically says he doesn’t have his full power without it. Goku rejects this and tells them to leave, the rest of the crew joins in on his dismissal.

Here we learn another interesting tidbit. In the image above is Raditz reminiscing about Planet Vegeta, I don’t remember the planet having rings but ther do look cool. Raditz says that the planet was destroyed by a comet. Raditz must have been very far away to fall for this load of crap. He says there is only four Saiyans left alive, so that should be Goku, Raditz, Vegeta, and Nappa. Wrong, Raditz notices that Gohan has a tail, so that makes at least 5 Saiyan’s alive. Goku eventually goes to fight Raditz and is beat down in one punch

Raditz proceeds to take Gohan away as persuasion for Goku to join him and the other Saiyans to go conquer planets. Raditz has one very morbid request to go along with joining him is killing 100 earthlings to prove his loyalty to the Saiyan’s.

There was a lot of story here in this episode and it added to the lore, not much action though.
