A common theme in these title shots are the use of the dragon balls. We are back with Gohan in the wilderness and he is full of confidence now as he awakes and goes after some breakfast. He can jump off tall cliffs now with ease and uses a kick to knock a bunch of fruit out of a tree for his breakfast. The T-rex shows back up to bother him but he doesn’t seem to be the least bit scared. They go off on a chase and Gohan is toying with the dinosaur until he pulls a move that leaves the it knocked out after running into a rock. Gohan then cuts off a piece of the tail for some more breakfast, like father like son, always hungry. Piccolo looks on from high above with approval.
We head off to space and Vegeta and Nappa are off to a planet on their journey to Earth to cause some havoc on a planet. They arrive on the planet Arrlia, which seems kind of remote and desolate, but Vegeta has plans to sell it. Some Arrlian natives show up, they look like insect humanoids, similar to the precious planet Vegeta devastated. The Arrlian’s attack them but do not cause a scratch. Vegeta thinks its worth playing a game with them and they both surrender to see where they will be taken.
Vegeta and Nappa are caged now and being transported by the arrlians. They appear before the king who is watching some sort of gladiator esque battle between his subjects and eating a fruit that looks like Durian. If you do not know Durian, it is the nastiest smelling fruit on Earth. Nappa and Vegeta are imprisoned with some Arrlians and the resident prisoners convey with them that the new king of Arrlia is a tyrant and stole the one prisoner’s wife. Flash over to the wife who is now the queen and is upset with the new king because she does not love him. The Gladiator match finishes, and the loser is banished to the pits where some giant monster kills him.
The king says he is bored, but that ends quickly as Vegeta and Nappa have broken out of their cell and arrive to challenge the tyrant king. The king challenges them to fight his best gladiator and Vegeta kills the creature in one shot. He king is unimpressed and challenges them again with 10 warriors, the elite royal guards. Nappa calls them the cricket brigade. Hey attack and are dead in seconds. Laser fingers do work. He king goes for the last resort and releases the giant monster from the pits to defeat them now.
The old giant bug in the ground trick, as Vegeta calls it. The bug has lasers of tis own and it at least causes Vegeta and Nappa to pull off some dodge maneuvers but Nappa breaks off one of the bugs fingers and then licks the bug juice off his face, ew.
The prisoner who lost his wife to the king has rose up and is looking for his wife and praises Vegeta and Nappa for freeing the planet from centuries of bondage. He praises them as heroes and says they will never forget them. Nappa and Vegeta leave as the bug is reunited with his wife. All is right on Arllia.
Vegeta stops the spaceships and turns around to destroy the planet, right when the lost lovers locked arms. So much for being heroes. Nappa and Vegeta laugh about the planets destruction and muse about Earth being more of a challenge. Pretty cool to get our first extended look at the Saiyan threat, but they didn’t provide much depth other than that they are destroyers of worlds. Mainly bug planet killers because we have seen them destroy bug planets twice now.
We checked in on the dbz heroes a couple of times in this episode, but they were all busy traveling still.
